New Delhi/Patna, 23rd Oct: In a high-stakes encounter late Wednesday night, Delhi Police neutralized four most-wanted gangsters from Bihar, including dreaded criminal Ranjan Pathak, in the Rohini area. The slain gangsters have been identified as Ranjan Pathak, Aman Thakur, Bimlesh Mahato, and Manish Pathak. According to police, three of them hailed from Sitamarhi, Bihar, while Aman Thakur was a resident of Karawal Nagar, Delhi.

Officials said the gang was allegedly plotting a major criminal act in Bihar ahead of the upcoming state elections. Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team of Delhi and Bihar Police tracked the gang’s movements for weeks before cornering them in Rohini. The encounter is being hailed as a major success in pre-election security operations.

Police sources revealed that Ranjan Pathak was the mastermind behind the notorious Sigma & Company crime syndicate, which operated across Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh, with influence extending up to the India–Nepal border. The gang was involved in extortion, contract killings, and arms trafficking, with funding channels reportedly linked to Nepal.

Pathak had been on the radar for several high-profile murders, including that of Aditya Singh in Bajpatti and Madan Kushwaha, the brother-in-law of local panchayat head Rani Devi. He had also claimed responsibility for the killing of Ram Manohar Sharma, district president of the Brahmarshi Sena, sending media outlets a letter admitting to the crimes and alleging police corruption.

In his statement, Pathak had accused district police of framing him in false cases under political pressure and caste bias. He even circulated his “criminal bio-data” to journalists after a sensational murder in Sitamarhi, reportedly to spread fear and notoriety.

Police said Pathak and his associates had been under surveillance for months, with their Delhi hideout identified recently. The encounter, planned meticulously keeping in mind poll-related security threats, prevented a possible escalation of violence ahead of the elections in Bihar.

Officials have termed the joint Delhi–Bihar police operation a major breakthrough, calling it a decisive blow to organized crime networks operating across state borders.
