New Delhi, 14th Oct: The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, announced that all categories of international postal services to the United States of America (USA) will resume from 15 October 2025.
Services were earlier suspended on 22 August 2025 following Executive Order 14324 by the U.S. Administration, which ended de minimis treatment for postal shipments and imposed new customs duty collection requirements.
India Post has now implemented a compliant Delivery Duty Paid (DDP) mechanism. Under this system, all applicable customs duties will be collected upfront in India at the time of booking and remitted directly to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) through approved Qualified Parties. This ensures regulatory compliance, faster customs clearance, and seamless delivery without additional duties or delays for recipients in the USA.
Customs duty on postal shipments to the USA is set at a flat rate of 50% of the declared FOB value under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariff. No additional base or product-specific duties will apply. Importantly, India Post will not levy any extra charges for facilitating DDP services, keeping postal tariffs unchanged. This approach supports MSMEs, artisans, small traders, and e-commerce exporters by providing affordable and competitive logistics solutions.
Senders can now book EMS, Air Parcels, Registered Letters/Packets, and Tracked Packets for the USA from any Post Office, International Business Centre (IBC), Dak Ghar Niryat Kendra (DNK), or via the Self-Service Portal at www.indiapost.gov.in
The DDP system enhances transparency, enables predictable shipping costs, and promotes smoother delivery experiences for international recipients. The Department of Posts will also conduct awareness programs to support exporters and small businesses, aligning with initiatives like Make in India, One District One Product (ODOP), and DNKs.
This resumption is a key step in strengthening India’s international postal and export logistics network and demonstrates India Post’s role in promoting export-driven economic growth.
