WASHINGTON – US Department OF War on Friday has denied reports that it is sending new Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles to Pakistan.
The reports were false, stressed that the changes are part of routine support work, not a new weapons sale.
The Department in a statement said a recent update to an old Foreign Military Sales contract is only for maintenance and spare parts for several countries, including Pakistan.
It added that the deal “does not include any upgrades or new deliveries” to Pakistan.
The clarification came after some media reports claimed that the US was providing new missile systems to Pakistan. The Department said these reports were false, stressing that the changes are part of routine support work, not a new weapons sale.
The AMRAAM is a long-range air-to-air missile used by many US allies. Any news about its supply to Pakistan often draws attention because of the strained ties between India and Pakistan.
US officials said the administration remains committed to transparency in defense deals and to ensuring that such agreements do not disturb the regional military balance.
