New Delhi, 11th Oct: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid rich tributes to Nanaji Deshmukh on his birth anniversary, describing him as a “visionary social reformer, nation builder and lifelong advocate of self-reliance and rural empowerment.”
In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said Nanaji Deshmukh’s life symbolised “dedication, discipline and service to society.” He lauded Deshmukh’s pioneering work in rural development and his contribution to shaping India’s self-reliant model of growth.
Recalling Nanaji’s deep inspiration from Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan, Modi said that his reverence for JP and his vision for youth-led nation building were evident in his work as Mahamantri of the Janata Party.
“Paying homage to the great Nanaji Deshmukh on his birth anniversary. He was a visionary social reformer, nation builder and lifelong advocate of self-reliance and rural empowerment. His life was an embodiment of dedication, discipline and service to society,” the Prime Minister posted.

Nanaji Deshmukh, a key figure in India’s social and political landscape, was instrumental in implementing the concept of self-sustained villages through the Deendayal Research Institute. He was also closely associated with the Jana Sangh and later played a vital role in the Janata Party movement inspired by Jayaprakash Narayan.
