New Delhi, 11th Oct: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid homage to Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan on his birth anniversary, calling him one of India’s most fearless voices of conscience and a tireless champion of democracy and social justice.
In a series of posts on X, the Prime Minister recalled Loknayak JP’s lifelong dedication to empowering citizens and upholding Constitutional values. He noted that JP’s clarion call for Sampoorna Kranti (Total Revolution) had ignited a powerful social and political movement envisioning a nation grounded in equality, ethics, and good governance.
The Prime Minister further highlighted that Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan’s movements in Bihar and Gujarat triggered a nationwide socio-political awakening, challenging authoritarianism and exposing the excesses of the then Congress Government, which eventually imposed the Emergency.
Marking the occasion, PM Modi also shared rare pages from JP’s Prison Diary, written during his solitary confinement in the Emergency period. The Prime Minister said the diary reflected JP’s anguish and his unwavering faith in democracy, quoting his words:
“Every nail driven into the coffin of Indian democracy is like a nail driven into my heart.”
The Prime Minister concluded by reaffirming that Loknayak JP’s ideals continue to inspire generations and serve as a guiding light for India’s democratic spirit.
