Centre Releases ₹171 Crore PM-KISAN Aid for J&K Farmers

“Government stands shoulder to shoulder with affected people under PM Modi’s leadership,” says Shivraj Singh Chouhan

New Delhi, 7th Oct: In a major relief initiative for flood and landslide-affected farmers in Jammu & Kashmir, Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan today released the 21st installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme in advance. The disbursal of ₹171 crore directly to the bank accounts of 8.55 lakh farmers, including 85,418 women farmers, marks a key support measure by the Central Government in the wake of recent natural calamities.

Releasing the installment through video conferencing from Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi, Shri Chouhan said, “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the government stands shoulder to shoulder with the affected people. We will ensure that no farmer is left alone in this hour of crisis.”

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, ICAR Director General Dr. Mangi Lal Jat, and senior officials were present at the event. Jammu & Kashmir Agriculture Minister Javed Ahmad Dar, local representatives, officials, and farmers also joined virtually.

With the release of this installment, a total of ₹4,052 crore has been transferred so far to farmers in Jammu & Kashmir under the PM-KISAN scheme.

Highlighting the Centre’s commitment to rehabilitation, Chouhan announced that ₹85.62 crore has been sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-Gramin) for the reconstruction of 5,100 damaged houses. “The package includes support for toilets and additional funds under MGNREGA, helping families rebuild their homes,” he added.

To further aid affected households, the minister declared that MGNREGA workdays would be increased from 100 to 150 upon the Jammu & Kashmir government’s proposal, providing additional livelihood opportunities.

Chouhan also informed that the Centre is prepared to assist in restoring agricultural operations by ensuring supply of seeds, fertilisers, and essential inputs. He noted that compensation under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) would be promptly released once the J&K government submits its proposal.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and J&K Agriculture Minister Javed Ahmad Dar expressed gratitude to the Central Government for the timely and comprehensive support, commending Shri Chouhan’s proactive efforts during his visit to the disaster-affected regions.
