New Delhi, 2nd Oct: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Padma Vibhushan Pandit Chhannulal Mishra, calling it an “irreparable loss to the world of Indian music.”

In his condolence message, the Prime Minister said Pandit Mishra dedicated his life to art and culture, elevating the Banaras Gharana’s musical tradition to new heights. “He enriched every festival of Kashi with his voice and songs. Be it Holi at Manikarnika Ghat or Kajri renditions in the month of Sawan, his music will forever resonate in Kashi,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister also praised Mishra’s efforts in bringing recognition to folk traditions on the global stage and recalled his personal bond with the maestro. “I had the privilege of meeting him several times and receiving his affection. He was one of my proposers in the 2014 elections, and his deep emotional connect with Kashi was truly unique,” he noted.

PM Modi remembered visiting Mishra’s residence during the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, calling it a vivid memory as the nation marks Gandhi Jayanti today.

“Every music lover in Bharat will continue to draw inspiration from Pandit Mishra’s life. The grief of his family is my personal grief. I pray that Baba Vishwanath grants him a place at His feet and gives strength to his well-wishers in this hour of sorrow,” the Prime Minister said.
