New Delhi, 30th Sept: The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, presented the diamond jubilee Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner to the President’s Bodyguard (PBG) at Rashtrapati Bhavan today, marking 75 years of service since the regiment was designated as the PBG in 1950.

‘Viraat’, the Commandant’s Charger retired in 2022, was also present. The PBG has retained Viraat as a symbol of the strong bond between personnel and their horses; Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had patted the horse during the Republic Day Parade in 2022.

In her remarks, the President lauded the PBG for their professional excellence and commitment to military traditions, emphasizing the responsibility that accompanies this honour.

The PBG, India’s oldest regiment, was originally raised as the Governor-General’s Bodyguard in 1773. It was renamed the President’s Bodyguard on January 27, 1950. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, India’s first President, had presented the Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner to the regiment on May 14, 1957.

The PBG remains the only regiment allowed two standards: the President’s Standard and the Regimental Standard of the PBG.
