Chennai, 30th Sept: A senior Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader’s now-deleted social media post calling on Tamil Nadu’s youth to “revolt like in Nepal” has triggered a political storm, coming just two days after a stampede at Vijay’s rally in Karur claimed 41 lives.
The post by Aadhav Arjuna, TVK’s General Secretary, urged ‘Gen Z’ to lead a revolution against the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), which he described as a “wicked government.” Screenshots of the message continue to circulate online despite its removal.
DMK MP Kanimozhi slammed the remark as “irresponsible,” warning it could instigate violence. TVK sources quickly distanced the party from Arjuna’s comments, insisting both Vijay and the party “will never instigate people or violence.”
The controversy adds to the political fallout of the Karur tragedy, where police have blamed unscheduled stops by Vijay’s campaign bus and crowd mismanagement for the deadly stampede. TVK, meanwhile, has alleged a DMK “conspiracy,” citing power cuts and police lapses, and is pressing for a CBI probe into the incident.
Chief Minister MK Stalin appealed for calm, assuring that recommendations of a judicial inquiry would be acted upon and urging people not to spread rumours.
The episode has given the Bharatiya Janata Party fresh ammunition in Tamil Nadu politics, with an eight-MP team set to conduct its own ‘investigation’ ahead of the 2026 state elections.
