Dubai, 29th Sept: Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s now-viral ‘plane down’ gesture after clean-bowling Pakistan’s Haris Rauf lit up the Asia Cup final on Sunday night. The moment quickly flooded social media as fans replayed Bumrah’s emphatic reply to Rauf’s earlier taunt.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju joined the buzz, sharing a screenshot of the shattered off-stump with the caption: “Pakistan deserves this punishment.”
India defeated Pakistan by five wickets to lift their ninth Asia Cup title. The high-stakes tournament came amid tensions after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians and triggered Operation Sindoor. Team India had earlier refused a handshake with Pakistan players.
Rauf had mocked Indian fans in the Super Fours clash with a ‘plane down’ gesture, alluding to Pakistan’s unfounded claim of downing six Indian jets during Operation Sindoor. Bumrah’s riposte, after uprooting Rauf’s off-stump in the final, gave fans a perfect comeback moment.
Drama also unfolded during the presentation when Team India declined to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council chief and Pakistani minister Mohsin Naqvi, prompting Naqvi to leave the stage. The Men in Blue celebrated without the trophy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the win on X: “OperationSindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same – India wins! Congrats to our cricketers.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah called it a “phenomenal victory,” praising the “fierce energy” of the Indian squad.
