MP Minister’s Remarks on Rahul–Priyanka Spark Political Firestorm

Bhopal, 27th Sept: The row over Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya’s comments on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s public affection toward sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra escalated Saturday after state Forest Minister Vijay Shah publicly endorsed him.

At an event in Khandwa, Shah declared, “Our civilization and traditions do not teach this. Whatever they teach, practice it in your own homes, not at public places.” Pointing to MLA Kanchan Tanve, he added, “She is also my real sister, so would I kiss her in public?”

Shah, no stranger to controversy, previously drew outrage in May after a crude remark following Operation Sindoor, later apologizing “ten times over.”

The Congress launched statewide protests, burning effigies of both BJP ministers. State party chief Jitu Patwari termed the remarks “disgusting” and demanded their resignation, accusing Vijayvargiya of “insulting our culture and women alike.”

With Shah now backing Vijayvargiya, the dispute has deepened into a high-voltage political battle over language, culture, and respect for women.
