Dantewada, 25th Sept:
A total of 71 Maoists, including 21 women, surrendered to police and CRPF officials in Dantewada district on Wednesday, citing disillusionment with the “hollow” Maoist ideology, said Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai.

Among the surrendered were two minor girls and a 17-year-old boy. The cadres expressed appreciation for the Bastar Range police’s rehabilitation drives ‘Lon Varratu’ and ‘Poona Margem’ and the state government’s updated surrender and rehabilitation policy.

Bounties and Notable Surrenders

  • Baman Madkam (30) and Manki/Samila Mandavi (20) – Rs 8 lakh each
  • Shamila/Somli Kawasi (25), Gangi/Rohni Barse (25), Deve/Kavita Madvi (25), Santosh Mandavi (30) – Rs 5 lakh each
  • Additional Maoists carried bounties ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 3 lakh

Baman, Shamila, Gangi, and Deve were involved in multiple attacks on security personnel. Others participated in logistics, road digging, tree cutting, and distributing Maoist propaganda.

Since the launch of the ‘Lon Varratu’ campaign in June 20201,113 Maoists, including 297 with bounties, have surrendered in Dantewada. Each surrendering cadre received Rs 50,000 and will undergo further rehabilitation as per government policy.

The surrender follows the recent killing of two senior Maoist leaders in Narayanpur district, Raju Dada/Katta Ramachandra Reddy (63) and Kosa Dada/Kadari Satyanarayana Reddy (67), both Central Committee members with bounties of Rs 1.80 crore each. Their deaths have further weakened the Maoist organizational structure in Chhattisgarh.
