New Delhi, 23rd Sept: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s claim that Gen Z is against the BJP, saying “nobody has a monopoly” over the generation.
Speaking to NDTV’s Manogya Loiwal, Pradhan cited the recent Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections—where the BJP’s student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) won three of four key posts—as evidence of youth backing Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Results show the trend. Gen Z is for Bharat, and PM Modi represents Bharat,” Pradhan said, a day after Rahul Gandhi posted that “Gen Z will save the constitution and protect democracy.”
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva hailed the DUSU victory as a “slap” to Gandhi’s remarks, while Congress leader Ajay Rai accused ABVP of intimidation and violence during the polls.
Gen Z refers to those born between 1997 and 2012. Their political leanings have gained attention after youth-led protests in Nepal toppled the government, prompting speculation of similar movements in India.
