Dhar (Madhya Pradesh), 19th Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched the Suman Sakhi Chatbot, a groundbreaking digital initiative designed to address women’s health challenges, from pregnancy to menstrual issues, with the help of artificial intelligence. The chatbot, also called “Digital Didi”, aims to empower women, especially in rural and remote areas, by providing reliable health information in Hindi, round the clock.

Speaking at the launch event in Dhar district, PM Modi emphasized that this innovation would play a crucial role in reducing maternal and infant mortality while making healthcare more accessible. “This chatbot will ensure that women no longer feel helpless in times of health crises. They will have guidance and support available 24×7, at their fingertips,” he said.

How the Chatbot Works

The Suman Sakhi Chatbot can be accessed via WhatsApp by sending a simple greeting like “Namaskar” or “I want to ask a question” to 9770905942. The system will then open an interactive menu that provides essential information such as:

  • Pregnancy check-ups and danger signs
  • Newborn care guidelines
  • Menstrual health support
  • Nearest healthcare centers

Additionally, it offers details on family planning, government health schemes, nutrition, and vaccination programs. A standout feature is its complete confidentiality, allowing women to share personal concerns without hesitation.

Why Suman Sakhi Chatbot Is Unique

This is India’s first state-level AI-based chatbot dedicated exclusively to women’s health and nutrition. Unlike generic health helplines, it is designed specifically for women, ensuring timely and targeted support. By integrating artificial intelligence with local language communication, it bridges the gap between healthcare providers and women in underserved regions.

PM Modi highlighted that beyond healthcare, the chatbot represents India’s growing use of AI in social welfare. “Technology should not remain limited to urban spaces—it must empower villages, families, and especially women,” he said.

Backed by NHM and MPSeDC

The initiative has been jointly developed by the National Health Mission (NHM) and the Madhya Pradesh State Electronics Development Corporation (MPSeDC). Initially, the chatbot will be rolled out in select districts, with plans to expand statewide in phases.

Health experts believe the chatbot could transform maternal and child healthcare by offering timely interventions. For instance, early identification of pregnancy-related risks through accessible advice may prevent complications.

Complementary Initiatives Announced

During the event, PM Modi also transferred funds under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana to the accounts of over 10 lakh women with a single click. In addition, he distributed Sickle Cell Anemia cards as part of the government’s broader mission to address women’s and children’s health challenges.

Looking Ahead

The launch of the Suman Sakhi Chatbot reflects the government’s focus on integrating technology with public health. By offering real-time, confidential, and localized health advice, it has the potential to significantly reduce maternal and infant mortality rates while enhancing women’s access to healthcare services.

Health officials in Madhya Pradesh are optimistic that this chatbot will set a precedent for other states to adopt similar digital health innovations.
