New Delhi, 17th Sept: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj on Monday criticised India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav for dedicating the Asia Cup win over Pakistan to the victims of the April Pahalgam terror attack, challenging him to donate his match earnings to the victims’ families.
Addressing reporters in Hindi, Bharadwaj said Yadav’s tribute was “easy talk” and urged him, the BCCI and the ICC to give all revenue earned through broadcasting rights and advertisements to the 26 widows of those killed. “If you have the courage, donate every rupee you earned from this match. Then we will believe this dedication,” he remarked, calling the gesture “embarrassing” without action.
India defeated Pakistan by seven wickets on Sunday in a match that had faced boycott calls following the April 22 Pahalgam attack, where 26 tourists, including a Nepal national, were killed. After the win, Yadav dedicated the victory to the armed forces who executed Operation Sindoor and expressed solidarity with the victims’ families. Indian players also refrained from shaking hands with the Pakistani side.
Opposition leaders, including Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, earlier questioned the Centre for allowing the game despite the attack. Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar countered that opposing the match was “not fair.”
The Resistance Front, a Lashkar-e-Taiba affiliate, claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack. Operation Sindoor, conducted from May 7–10, targeted terrorist and military facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation.
