Dehradun, 16th Sept: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh on Monday inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence, Skill Development and Innovation at Graphic Era (Deemed to be University) in Dehradun, calling for strong ethical standards in the use of artificial intelligence.

“AI can create miracles if used judiciously, but without integrity it can also be misused, as seen in the rise of deepfakes and misinformation. Integrity has no technological substitute,” Dr. Singh said, urging students and researchers to adopt a “hybrid model” where AI complements, rather than replaces, human judgment.

Spread over 1.5 lakh sq. ft., the new Centre is the first of its kind in Uttarakhand. It houses an Apple iOS Development Centre—set up with Apple and Infosys—and the state’s first NVIDIA AI and High-Performance Computing facility powered by an NVIDIA DGX B200 system with 8 GPUs and 1.74 TB GPU memory. Built at a cost of over ₹10 crore, the facility will drive research and innovation in healthcare, agriculture, environment, smart cities, and advanced industries.

Graphic Era University, ranked 48th in the NIRF 2025 list and accredited A+ by NAAC, is also India’s first Generative AI Ready Campus powered by AWS. University officials said the Centre aims to become a national hub for research, skill development, and entrepreneurship aligned with the government’s Digital India, Startup India, and Skill India initiatives.

Highlighting AI’s social impact, Dr. Singh pointed to AI-enabled telemedicine vans delivering healthcare to remote villages and said similar technology can strengthen grievance redressal in governance. “Every tool has a self-limiting utility if integrity is compromised. Only when we combine innovation with honesty can we truly shape India’s digital future,” he added.
