Varanasi, 11th Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted Mauritius Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam in Varanasi on Thursday, highlighting the deep cultural and strategic ties between the two nations.

Addressing a joint press meet, Modi said, “India and Mauritius are not just partners but a family,” underlining centuries-old civilizational links.

The leaders reviewed cooperation across development, energy, and maritime security.

PM Modi announced a Special Economic Package to boost infrastructure, healthcare, and education in Mauritius, calling it “an investment in our shared future, not assistance.”

He reaffirmed India’s support for Mauritius’ sovereignty following the Chagos Agreement, and detailed new collaborations, including a 17.5 MW floating solar plant, local currency trade, and expanded training for civil servants and Coast Guard officers.
