WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump on Monday was noisily booed at the US Open men’s final held at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York on Sunday, media reports stated.

The crowd’s reaction was evident when Trump was shown on the big screen, with fans expressed their disapproval through loud boos, although some cheers were also heard.

As per media reports this wasn’t the first time Trump faced a hostile reception, he was similarly booed during his last US Open attendance in 2015.

US Open crowd had to endure a security nightmare before the match, with long queues and individual scanning required to enter the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, the largest tennis venue in the world with a nearly 24,000-person capacity.

The enhanced security measures led to a 30-minute delay in the match start, with the game beginning at 2:30 pm local time instead of the originally scheduled 2 pm.

Trump’s appearance at the US Open final between Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz and Italy’s Jannik Sinner was met with mixed reactions, with some fans and media outlets claiming he was booed, while others argued he received cheers. Videos from different angles surfaced, fueling the debate.

US Tennis Association had asked broadcasters to avoid showing crowd reactions to Trump’s presence, but it became impossible to ignore the boos when he appeared on the screen. Trump attended the event as a guest of Rolex, despite imposing a 39 percent tariff on Swiss goods.
