New Delhi, 8th Sep: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday accused Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge of insulting farmers in Karnataka’s flood-hit Kalaburagi district, after a video of his interaction with a local farmer went viral.

In the video, Kharge is heard asking a farmer, “How many acres have you sown?” When the farmer replies, “Four acres,” Kharge responds, “I have 40 acres. My condition is worse than yours. You can at least bear it. I cannot, because my loss is much greater. Don’t come here for publicity. Go and ask Modi and Shah.”

The Congress leader further claimed that all crops — moong, urad and arhar — had been destroyed in the floods, stressing that he was well aware of the ground reality.

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari posted the video on social media, sharply criticizing Kharge. “Congress insults farmers! The farmer who approached Kharge was told to stop coming for publicity. Why do Congress and Rahul Gandhi hate our farmers so much?” Bhandari wrote.

The remarks have triggered a heated political row, with the BJP alleging that the Congress president belittled the struggles of farmers instead of empathizing with their plight.
