Patna, 6th Sept: Bihar’s political landscape turned turbulent this week after Kerala Congress sparked outrage with a controversial social media post.

The official X handle of Kerala Congress compared Bihar with a bidi, posting, “B for Bihar, B for Bidi.” The remark triggered sharp criticism across party lines, with BJP and JDU leaders accusing Congress of insulting Bihar’s people and legacy.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said the party had “crossed all limits of decency,” alleging that after insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother, Congress has now mocked an entire state. “Does Tejashwi Yadav support this? From Revanth Reddy to DMK and Congress, their hatred towards Bihar is visible,” Poonawalla asked.

JDU MP Sanjay Kumar Jha also lashed out at Congress, calling the tweet “shameful.” He added, “B is not just for Bidi, it’s also for Buddhi (wisdom), which you clearly lack. B is for Budget, and it irks you when Bihar gets special assistance. Bihar will not respond with smoke, but with votes.”

Amid escalating backlash, Kerala Congress issued an apology, clarifying that its post was a satire aimed at GST issues and not Bihar. “If you felt hurt, we sincerely apologise,” the party posted on X.

Meanwhile, another controversy has been heating up Bihar politics. BJP called for a five-hour state-wide bandh on Thursday, protesting against abusive remarks allegedly made against PM Modi’s late mother from a Congress rally stage. The shutdown saw widespread protests across districts.

RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav weighed in, framing the row as “Gujarat vs Bihar.” In a fiery post on X, he warned, “Gujaratis should not underestimate Biharis. This is Bihar. BJP’s goons are harassing women, students, and elders on the streets.”

Adding to the storm, RJD spokesperson Priyanka Bharti accused the BJP of GST discrimination against Bihar’s products. “While Gujarati Khakhra enjoys 0% GST, Bihar’s Makhana faces 5% and Tilkut 18%. Even pens now attract 18% GST. As Tejashwi ji says, BJP distributes swords but hates pens,” she posted.

With assembly elections around the corner, Bihar’s political scene is boiling with controversies — from social media spats to economic grievances — setting the stage for a fierce battle ahead.
