New Delhi, 4th Sept:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday underlined the transformative role of Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms in supporting India’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Calling MSMEs the “backbone of the economy”, the Prime Minister said the Government’s #NextGenGST initiative would act as a catalyst for manufacturing growth, job creation, and economic resilience.Responding to a post by economist Shyam Sekhar on X, the Prime Minister wrote:

“MSMEs are the backbone of our economy, creating jobs and driving growth. From easier credit to wider market access, every reform has been aimed at strengthening small and medium businesses. The latest GST changes build on this momentum by rationalising rates, simplifying compliance and boosting enterprises across India. #NextGenGST”

Over the past decade, the Centre has rolled out reforms aimed at easing credit flows, expanding market linkages, and reducing compliance burdens for MSMEs. The latest GST rationalisation is expected to streamline processes, curb inefficiencies, and allow small businesses to focus on growth and innovation.

Officials said the reforms are also designed to integrate MSMEs more effectively with global supply chains and enable faster scaling up of India’s manufacturing sector.
