GST Reforms Will Power Atmanirbhar Bharat: Piyush Goyal

India MedTech Expo showcases nation’s rise as a global MedTech hub with participation from over 30 countries.

New Delhi, 4th Sept: 
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the second edition of the India MedTech Expo 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The three-day event (4–6 September) brings together global stakeholders to position India as a leading MedTech manufacturing hub.

In his address, Goyal described the recent GST reforms as a “milestone towards Atmanirbhar Bharat,” urging 140 crore Indians to unite with the vision of making India a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

“Yesterday’s GST reforms are a step in the direction of ensuring an Atmanirbhar Bharat—a self-reliant India that cares for 140 crore Indians coming together with the collective resolve to make India Viksit Bharat by 2047,” Goyal said.

Delivering the keynote, Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secretary, Department of Health Research and DG, ICMR, stressed academia–industry collaboration:

“ICMR, through MedTech Mitra and Patent Mitra, will play an important role in bringing academia and industry together for Viksit Bharat.”

Nitin Kumar Yadav, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, underlined India’s efforts to harmonize regulations and expand global trade partnerships to position India as a healthcare and wellness hub.

Dr. Rajiv Singh Raghuvanshi, DCGI, CDSCO, highlighted regulatory reforms:

“Our aim is to make regulation lighter and execution stronger. The world has recognized India as a powerhouse for healthcare supplies.”

Praveen Kumar Mittal, Executive Director, EPCMD, said India’s USD 15 billion medical devices sector is expected to double by 2030, powered by 800+ start-ups and strong R&D.

Themed ‘India: Global MedTech Manufacturing Hub – Precision Engineering yet Affordable’, the expo features MSMEs, start-ups, R&D institutions, innovation pavilions, and participation from over 150 international buyers representing 30+ countries. Leading industry associations like AIMED, CII, FICCI, USIBC, ASSOCHAM, NATHEALTH and others are supporting the event.
