New Delhi, 2nd Sept: In a veiled counter to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff attacks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said India’s economy grew 7.8% in Q1 FY2025 despite “challenges arising from economic selfishness.”
Speaking at the Semicon India 2025 conference in New Delhi, Modi declared that India had “performed better than all expectations” even as global concerns mount.
“India achieved 7.8% growth at a time when there are economic concerns around the world and challenges arising from economic selfishness,” he said, drawing a clear contrast with Trump’s recent comments on India’s trade practices.
Semiconductor Push Gains Steam
PM Modi stressed India’s rise as a “trusted global partner” in semiconductors. Since launching the Semicon India programme in 2021, he said, ten projects worth over ₹1.5 lakh crore have been approved.
He also highlighted the National Single Window System, which streamlines investor approvals.
“The day is not far when the world will say: Designed in India, Made in India, Trusted by the World,” he told delegates.
India’s First Chip Unveiled
