Tianjin, 1st Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong anti-terror stand reverberated across the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, as member nations came out in full support of India. In a major diplomatic triumph, the Tianjin Declaration condemned the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, echoing Modi’s call that “double standards in the fight against terrorism are unacceptable.”

Member states offered condolences to the victims and demanded that perpetrators, organisers and sponsors of terror be held accountable. The declaration reaffirmed a united resolve to combat terrorism, separatism, and extremism, stressing that no group should be used for political or mercenary purposes.

The summit also opposed unilateral sanctions that threaten global security and trade, while pushing forward plans for an SCO trade facilitation agreement. Innovation was another key theme, with the declaration applauding New Delhi’s hosting of the SCO Startup Forum and Think Tank Forum in 2025, and hailing ICWA’s role in strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties.

PM Modi set the tone of the summit by underlining India’s three-pillar vision for SCO: Security, Connectivity and Opportunity. He said, “Terrorism is not just a threat to states, but a grave challenge to humanity. India has borne this pain for four decades, and Pahalgam is the latest reminder. I thank friendly nations for standing with us in this hour of grief.”

With the adoption of the Tianjin Declaration, SCO members sent a powerful signal—no compromise on terror, no tolerance for double standards.
