New Delhi, 1st Sep: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission of Myanmar, on Sunday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin.
During the talks, the Prime Minister reaffirmed that India attaches high importance to its ties with Myanmar under the Neighborhood First, Act East, and Indo-Pacific policies. Both leaders reviewed the state of bilateral relations and discussed the way forward across multiple sectors, including development partnership, defence and security, border management, and border trade.
PM Modi stressed that progress on ongoing connectivity projects would boost people-to-people exchanges and strengthen regional cooperation in line with India’s Act East vision.
On Myanmar’s political future, the Prime Minister expressed hope that the forthcoming elections would be fair and inclusive, with participation from all stakeholders. He underlined that India supports a Myanmar-led, Myanmar-owned peace process, noting that dialogue and consultation are the only viable paths forward.
Reiterating New Delhi’s support, PM Modi assured that India remains committed to addressing Myanmar’s developmental needs.
