WASHINGTON – India Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday arrived in Tokyo to attend the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba,
He will travel to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Tianjin, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.
Modi emphasized the importance of stable India-China relations for regional peace and prosperity.
He highlighted in an interview with The Yomiuri Shimbun that the potential benefits of good relations between the two neighbours, stated that “stable, predictable, and amicable bilateral relations between India and China can have a positive impact on regional and global peace and prosperity.”
Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to respecting sovereignty, international law, and peaceful resolution of disputes, particularly in the context of China’s military expansion in the South China Sea and the East China Sea.
He also reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Japan, emphasized cooperation in key areas including military modernization and industry partnership, building a resilient and trusted semiconductor value chain, exploring opportunities for cooperation in space exploration, and enhancing trade and investment partnership.
“India and Japan will continue to be a force for peace, progress, and stability in Asia and the world,” PM Modi said.
He underscored the shared vision of both nations. The two countries are set to adopt a Joint Declaration on Security Cooperation, advancing their ambition for a secure and stable Indo-Pacific region, he said.
Modi asserted that strengthening collaboration in the defence sector, with a focus on military modernisation and industry partnership, would be a key area of cooperation with Japan.
He stressed building a resilient and trusted semiconductor value chain by combining India’s scale and capabilities with Japan’s advanced technologies.
PM stated that there would be a focus on exploring opportunities for cooperation in space exploration, including the Chandrayaan-5 mission.
He enhanced trade and investment partnership, with a focus on diversifying the trade basket and opening up new frontiers, is also a key area for cooperation, including the promotion of cultural exchanges, language education, and mutual understanding between India and Japan to strengthen ties for peace, progress, and stability, he concluded.
