New Delhi, 28th Aug: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday held an interaction with a delegation from the Communist Party of India (CPI), led by its General Secretary D. Raja, at Nirvachan Sadan in the capital. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi received suggestions from the CPI leadership on strengthening the electoral process.

This meeting is part of the Commission’s initiative to hold structured engagements with national and state political parties. The exercise, according to the ECI, provides a “long-felt need” for constructive dialogue, allowing party presidents and senior leaders to raise concerns directly with the Commission.

Over the last 150 days, the Election Commission has conducted 4,719 all-party meetings across the country, engaging over 28,000 party representatives. These included 40 meetings chaired by Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs), 800 by District Election Officers (DEOs), and 3,879 by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs).

The CPI interaction comes after a series of meetings earlier this year with other national and state parties, including the BSP, BJP, CPI(M), AAP, NPP, TMC, Samajwadi Party, DMK, AIMIM, Shiv Sena, BJD, JD(U), and BRS, among others.

The ECI reiterated that such consultations are part of its broader vision of inclusive stakeholder engagement to further strengthen the country’s electoral democracy within the existing legal framework.
