Mumbai, 25th Aug: Newly-appointed Mumbai BJP president Ameet Satam has started his new role with an aggressive stance, targeting the Thackeray brothers and pledging to make development the core of his party’s campaign. Satam, a 49-year-old three-term MLA, accused opposition parties of attempting to alter the city’s identity.

Satam said the coming together of Uddhav and Raj Thackeray was of little significance. “People coming together is not important. Mumbaikars have seen who has worked for them, how the Centre has pumped in money and worked on policies for the city,” he remarked. He further accused the city’s civic body of “visionless and non-transparent governance” from 1997 to 2022.

The new chief also focused on security, warning against attempts to “change the colour of the city” by “anti-national elements.” He pledged to protect Mumbai and replicate the “revolutionary changes” seen in the state since 2014, highlighting major infrastructure projects like the Coastal Road, Navi Mumbai airport, Metro, and Atal Setu.

While he dismissed speculation about internal rifts within the ruling Mahayuti alliance, his remarks come amid reports of friction between Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Eknath Shinde. The opposition, including Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, has seized on the reported row.

Satam’s appointment and aggressive approach have been backed by senior BJP leaders, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis describing him as an “educated and aggressive MLA with awareness about Mumbai’s issues.” Satam pledged to reach out to every Mumbaikar to communicate the party’s work and ensure a Mahayuti mayor is elected.
