Lucknow, 25th Aug: Expelled Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Pooja Pal has written a scathing letter to party chief Akhilesh Yadav, accusing him of protecting criminals and expressing her fear that she might be killed by “SP-sponsored mafia.” The three-time legislator was expelled from the party on August 14 for “breach of discipline,” an action she claims was a result of her publicly praising Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for ensuring justice in her husband’s murder case.

In her widely circulated letter, Pal, the widow of murdered BSP MLA Raju Pal, recalled how her husband was gunned down in broad daylight under SP rule in 2005. “Even after his murder, the SP fielded Atiq Ahmad’s brother Ashraf against me in three elections. When I needed support, the party sided with my husband’s killers,” she wrote. “I fear SP-sponsored mafia may get me killed,” she added, asserting that no such crime had occurred under any other government.

Pal alleged that her expulsion was not for cross-voting in a Rajya Sabha election, as was widely believed, but because she had named mafia don Atiq Ahmad in the Assembly. She dismissed any threat from BJP leaders and expressed full faith in Union Home Minister Amit Shah to investigate her claims. She said her only goal was to get justice for her husband’s killers, which she claims the Yogi Adityanath government delivered. “SP continues to nurture criminals—a sin future generations will not forgive,” she stated.

Pal warned that her expulsion had emboldened the family of Atiq Ahmad, who was allegedly the mastermind behind her husband’s murder. While acknowledging that they may be silent under the current government’s pressure, she claimed that the SP’s actions have boosted their morale. The SP, meanwhile, has urged the Union Home Ministry to investigate Pal’s claims, stating that the truth must be brought to light.
