New Delhi, 25th Aug: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced it will not nominate any members to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) formed to review three controversial bills. This decision follows a similar move by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Samajwadi Party (SP).

AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh stated that his party would not join the JPC, questioning how the “leader of the corrupt” could bring a bill against corruption. He claimed that the bill’s purpose is to “trap leaders in fake cases” and “bring down governments.”

The TMC had announced its decision on Saturday, with Rajya Sabha leader Derek O’Brien calling the JPC a “farce.” On Sunday, he reiterated his stance on X, stating that more parties were “calling out the Modi coalition’s stunt” to form the JPC, which he called “valueless.”

The three bills—the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill-2025, the Constitution (One Hundred And Thirtieth Amendment) Bill-2025, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill-2025—were introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 20. The bills provide a legal framework for the removal of the prime minister, chief ministers, and ministers if they are arrested for 30 consecutive days on serious charges.

The introduction of the bills in Parliament was met with strong protests from the opposition. Members of both the ruling and opposition alliances clashed in the House, with copies of the bills being torn and thrown. Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have passed a resolution to refer the bills to the JPC, which will consist of 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha. The committee has been mandated to submit its report during the Winter session of Parliament, which is expected to convene in November.
