WASHINGTON- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday diacussed Ukraine conflict with French President Emmanuel Macron during a phone call, media reported.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the India-France strategic partnership.
“Had a very good conversation with my friend President Macron. Exchanged views on efforts for peaceful resolution of conflicts in Ukraine and in West Asia. Reaffirmed our commitment to further strengthen the India-France strategic partnership,” Modi said on X.
Macron also posted on X about his conversation with Prime Minister Modi.
“We coordinated our positions on the war in Ukraine to move toward a just and lasting peace, with strong guarantees for Ukraine and the security of Europe,” he said.
He stated that the they also agreed to strengthen India-France strategic partnership in all areas.
“Regarding trade issues, we agreed to strengthen our economic exchanges and our strategic partnership in all areas, which is the key to our sovereignty and independence,” he added.
Macron was part of the European leaders who attended the key White House meeting with US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskky earlier this week.
The Eurpean countries have been backing Zelenskky and supporting Kyiv’s demand of a significant security guarantee as talks are going on to find a solution to Russia-Ukraine war.
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.
They exchanged views on Ukraine conflict, along with detailed discussion on bilateral ties.
“We exchanged views on Ukraine, Europe, Iran, West Asia, Afghanistan and the Indian sub-continent. Also spoke about our cooperation in UN, G20, SCO and BRICS. Our meeting helped prepare the outcomes and decisions for the Annual Summit later this year,” Jaishankar added.
