ECI Appoints Observers for Vice-Presidential Election 2025

New Delhi, 21st Aug:
 The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed senior IAS officers as Observers for the upcoming Vice-Presidential Election 2025, scheduled for September 9.

The appointments were made under the powers vested in the ECI by Article 324 of the Constitution. According to the notification issued on August 7, polling and counting of votes for the Vice-Presidential post will take place on the same day.

Appointed Observers
  • Shri Sushil Kumar Lohani, IAS (OD:1995) – Additional Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj
  • Shri D. Anandan, IAS (SK:2000) – Additional Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure

Additionally, Shri Nitin Kumar Shivdas Khade, IAS (AM:2004), Joint Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development (Department of Land Resources), has been placed on the reserve list.

The ECI stated that the Observers will oversee the conduct of the Vice-Presidential Election 2025 to ensure a free and fair process.
