PM Modi, Macron Discuss Peace Efforts in Ukraine and West Asia

New Delhi, 21st Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday received a telephone call from French President Emmanuel Macron, with the two leaders exchanging views on ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the West Asia region while also reaffirming their commitment to deepen the India-France strategic partnership.
According to an official release, President Macron briefed PM Modi on the recent meetings between European, US, and Ukrainian leaders in Washington, as well as his perspectives on the continuing crisis in Gaza.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s consistent position, emphasizing the need for peaceful resolution of conflicts and the early restoration of peace and stability in the troubled regions.
The leaders also reviewed bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, defence, civil nuclear energy, technology, and sustainable energy. They welcomed progress made across these sectors and underlined their intent to further consolidate ties.
A significant highlight of the discussion was the reaffirmation of 2026 as the “Year of Innovation” in the India-France partnership. President Macron also extended his support for the early conclusion of the India–EU Free Trade Agreement, a longstanding objective of both New Delhi and Brussels.
Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact and continue high-level engagement to coordinate on regional and global issues.
