New Delhi, 15th Aug: In his 79th Independence Day address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined a vision for an empowered India, emphasizing that the time has come to accelerate the nation’s journey of “reforming, performing, and transforming.” He stated that the government is committed to creating a modern, citizen-friendly ecosystem by simplifying laws and encouraging entrepreneurship to build a ‘Viksit Bharat’.

PM Modi highlighted a “historic wave of reforms,” noting that over 40,000 unnecessary compliances and more than 1,500 outdated laws have been abolished. He also mentioned that over 280 provisions were removed in the recent Parliament session alone to simplify governance.

The Prime Minister also announced key achievements, including a new income tax reform that provides zero tax for an annual income up to ₹12 lakh. He also pointed to the replacement of outdated criminal laws with the new Indian Justice Code, which is aimed at simplifying legal procedures for all citizens.

To further these efforts, PM Modi announced the formation of a Task Force for Next-Generation Reforms. This task force will evaluate all current laws and procedures to reduce compliance costs for startups and entrepreneurs, ensuring a business-friendly ecosystem free from the fear of arbitrary legal actions.

In a move set to benefit the common man, the Prime Minister promised to introduce Next-Generation GST reforms by this Diwali to reduce taxes on daily-use items. He called this initiative a “Diwali gift for you,” intended to directly benefit citizens and stimulate economic activity.
