Muzaffarpur, 13th Aug: The Electoral Registration Officer has issued a notice to Muzaffarpur Mayor Nirmala Sahu, asking her to explain her alleged possession of two voter ID cards. The mayor, who is a BJP leader, has been directed to submit her response by 5 p.m. on August 16.
The notice follows allegations by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, who, in a press conference, claimed that the mayor and her two brothers-in-law each have two EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) IDs in the same Vidhan Sabha. Yadav further alleged that all BJP leaders and workers in Bihar are being issued multiple voter ID cards as part of a campaign of “vote theft.”
He also accused the Election Commission of helping the BJP, claiming it is cutting the votes of the Opposition while providing BJP members with two EPIC numbers. In another specific allegation, Yadav claimed that Bhikhubhai Dalsaniya, a BJP leader from Gujarat, had become a voter in Patna.
Yadav also alleged that vote manipulation took place in the 2020 Bihar elections, stating that his party lost 10 seats over a small number of votes. He also drew a comparison to the Chandigarh mayoral election to question the neutrality of the Election Commission.
