Goyal Inaugurates New IP Office, Calls Innovation a ‘Symbol of Sovereignty’

New Delhi, 13th Aug: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal today inaugurated the newly expanded International Searching Authority (ISA) building of the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) in Dwarka, New Delhi. Speaking at the event, the Minister emphasized that innovation is a “symbol of sovereignty” and will be crucial for India’s global progress.

Citing historic examples like the Konark Temple, Goyal stated that a culture of innovation has been integral to India for centuries. He expressed confidence that the country’s IP ecosystem will be a key enabler of growth and will serve as a foundation for research and development on the journey to achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

The inauguration is a significant step in strengthening India’s intellectual property infrastructure. The project, which involved adding five new floors to the existing 2014 building, was completed in 2025 at a cost of approximately ₹88 crore. The expanded facility now has a built-up area of 140,120 square feet, increasing its capacity from 200 to over 700 personnel.

Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry Shri Jitin Prasada also spoke, highlighting India’s growth and predicting that the country will become a global talent hub for electronics, IT, and semiconductors. The new building features eco-friendly elements such as rainwater harvesting and a sewage treatment plant and includes a state-of-the-art International Training Centre to support capacity building for IP professionals.
