New Delhi, 11th Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during which he reiterated India’s consistent position on the need for a peaceful settlement of the conflict. The call comes at a crucial diplomatic juncture, just days after PM Modi spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin and ahead of a planned summit between US President Donald Trump and the Russian President.

According to a release from the Prime Minister’s Office, President Zelenskyy shared his perspectives on recent developments related to Ukraine. PM Modi, in turn, thanked the Ukrainian President and reaffirmed India’s “steadfast and consistent position” for a peaceful resolution, reiterating India’s commitment to extending all possible support in this regard.

On his social media handle, President Zelenskyy stated that he informed PM Modi about the ongoing Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and villages. He also stressed the importance of India supporting Ukraine’s peace efforts and taking a firmer stance on sanctions, particularly limiting Russian energy exports to reduce Moscow’s ability to fund the war.

The two leaders also took the opportunity to review the progress in the India-Ukraine bilateral partnership and discuss ways to further enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Both leaders agreed to remain in touch and are planning a personal meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in September.
