New Delhi, 9th Aug: In a major and unprecedented revelation, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh has for the first time confirmed that the Indian Air Force (IAF) shot down five Pakistani fighter jets and a large surveillance aircraft during “Operation Sindoor.” The IAF chief presented new images and intelligence to detail the extent of the damage inflicted on Pakistani military assets during the brief conflict.
During a presentation, Air Chief Marshal Singh showed “before” and “after” images of destroyed military targets, including a radar installation at Arifwala, a radar head at Chunian, and the main F-16 hangar at Jacobabad airbase. He also revealed that an AEW&C (Airborne Early Warning and Control) aircraft was likely inside a hangar at the Bholari airbase when it was destroyed, a significant strategic loss for Pakistan.
Highlighting the reasons behind the operation’s success, Air Chief Marshal Singh praised the “political will” and the “clear directions” given to the armed forces. He also singled out the S-400 air defense system as a “gamechanger,” stating, “The range of that system has really kept their aircraft and UAVs away… They have not been able to penetrate the Indian air defense system.”
Reflecting on the operation, which was a response to a terrorist attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, the Air Chief Marshal expressed personal satisfaction. “We have grown up in our Air Force dreaming about days like this,” he said. He further emphasized the “primacy of air warfare” and the ability to “attack deep inside with precision.” He also noted that this time, unlike the 2019 Balakot airstrike, the IAF was able to provide concrete evidence of its success to the public.
