New Delhi, 7th Aug: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today alleged massive voter fraud in a Karnataka Assembly segment during the 2024 Lok Sabha election, accusing the Election Commission (EC) of colluding with the ruling BJP to “steal the election.”

Gandhi claimed that an internal Congress probe focused on the Mahadevapura Assembly seat in Bengaluru and found over 1,00,250 “stolen votes.” He detailed that these votes were classified as duplicates, fake and invalid addresses, or bulk voters registered at a single address. According to Gandhi, this single seat secured a victory for the BJP in the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency.

In a sharp response, the office of the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer immediately challenged the Congress leader to submit a sworn declaration of his findings by this evening or withdraw his “fabricated evidence.” EC sources reportedly said that by speaking about fake voters, Mr. Gandhi was ironically supporting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, which the Opposition has been protesting in other states like Bihar.

Gandhi also questioned the results of the Maharashtra Assembly election, which came just months after the INDIA bloc’s strong performance in the general election. He said the “choreographed schedule” for the state polls and the addition of one crore new voters in just five months deepened his suspicion.

Responding to the allegations, BJP leaders strongly criticized Gandhi. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan accused him of “systematically attacking constitutional institutions” and “insulting the wise decision of the people.” Similarly, Ravi Shankar Prasad called Gandhi’s charges “baseless,” stating that it has become his habit to make such allegations.

Gandhi concluded his press briefing by asserting that the “umpire is on the other team” and called for the judiciary to get involved, claiming that the democracy “we love so much does not exist.”
