New Delhi, 5th Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the M.S. Swaminathan Centenary International Conference in New Delhi on August 7, an event that will honour the legendary agricultural scientist and advance his vision of a sustainable and hunger-free world. The three-day conference, themed “Evergreen Revolution – The Pathway to Bio happiness,” will bring together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the globe.

The conference, organized by the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), marks the birth centenary of Professor Swaminathan, a towering figure widely hailed as the pioneer of India’s Green Revolution.

At a press conference announcing the event, Dr. M.L. Jat, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), highlighted Professor Swaminathan’s pivotal role in transforming India from a food-deficient to a food-surplus nation. “Professor Swaminathan was a brave son of India whose revolutionary leadership in agriculture reshaped the country’s green landscape,” Dr. Jat said, adding that the conference aims to frame a future roadmap for Indian agriculture, with an emphasis on enhancing women’s participation.

During the inauguration, the Prime Minister will release a commemorative coin and stamp issued by the Government of India in honour of the scientist.

Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Chair of MSSRF, emphasized the conference’s global significance in shaping the future of sustainable agriculture. Key themes to be deliberated at the event include climate-resilient farming, conservation of biodiversity, inclusive technology-driven solutions, and the engagement of youth and women in development. The conference will serve as a global platform to reaffirm a collective commitment to building a sustainable and equitable world rooted in the concept of “Bio happiness.”
