Patna, 2nd Aug: The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Saturday that not a single claim or objection has been filed by any political party within the first 24 hours of the publication of the draft electoral rolls for Bihar. The draft list, which covers all 243 Assembly Constituencies and 90,712 polling booths, was published on Friday afternoon as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2025.
In a press note, the ECI stated, “From August 1 (3 PM) till August 2 (3 PM), all political parties put together, have filed ‘Zero’ claims and objections for the addition of the names of eligible electors and deletion of the names of ineligible electors.” The commission also assured the public that no name will be removed from the draft voter list without a stated reason and a “speaking order” from the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) after due inquiry.
The public has one month to submit claims and objections. To facilitate this, electors can verify their names and file claims through the official ECI portal at https://voters.eci.gov.in.
The ECI has also taken steps to streamline the process for its staff, announcing it will double the remuneration for Booth Level Officers (BLOs), enhance pay for BLO Supervisors, and provide an honorarium to EROs and AEROs.
As part of a drive to ensure accurate voter identity cards, the ECI has urged all voters to submit new photographs to their Booth Level Officers by September 1, 2025. The commission noted that 1.60 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs), nominated by district presidents of 12 political parties, actively participated in the enumeration phase, which took place from June 24 to July 25, 2025.
