New Delhi, 29th July: Countering the Opposition’s criticism regarding the “freedom of operation and manoeuvre for the armed forces” during Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asserted in the Lok Sabha that his government gave the armed forces a “free hand,” rendering Pakistan ineffective in response.
Responding to a debate on Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack, Prime Minister Modi lashed out at the Opposition and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who had questioned why the government had not contested US President Donald Trump’s claim of brokering a ceasefire.
Key Points from PM Modi’s Speech:
- Clear Mandate to Forces: “Terrorism deserves a strong response, and it’s our national resolution.” “I am proud of our armed forces. They were given full freedom, and we told them that you will decide when, where, and how to execute the operation. We taught them a tough lesson, and even today, they are getting sleepless nights.”
- Swift Retaliation: Recalling the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, PM Modi stated, “On the night of May 6-7, we conducted an Op the way we wanted, and Pakistan couldn’t do anything. In 22 minutes, we avenged the April 22 attack.” He emphasized that “this is the first time in India’s strategy that we wiped out terror HQs in every corner of Pakistan.”
- Nuclear Deterrence Debunked: “We proved that nuclear blackmailing will not work and we will not get intimidated by it.” The Prime Minister highlighted India’s technological prowess in striking “in the heart of Pakistan, hitting their airbases and assets. Some of these airbases are still in ICU.”
- International Support: PM Modi noted that no country had stopped India from conducting its operations, and only three nations had issued statements in favour of Pakistan, indicating global support for India’s actions. He expressed regret that Congress did not support the government.
- Setting a New Normal: “After the strikes, the mastermind can’t sleep. They know India will come and strike back. India has set the new normal.” He stressed that “Op Sindoor established that Pakistan and its terror leaders will have to pay a heavy price for such attacks.”
- Pakistan’s Plea for Ceasefire: Regarding the May 10 ceasefire, PM Modi reiterated, “Pakistan could not imagine that India would respond like this. Pakistan called the DGMO, ‘Bas karo, bohot maara, ab zyaada maar jhelne ki taakat nahi hai.'” He asserted, “It was part of India’s clear political and military objective. Our action was non-escalatory.”
- Rebuttal to Opposition: The Prime Minister criticized the Opposition’s questioning of “56-inch ka seena” and allegations of his failure immediately after the April 22 attack, stating their comments were “demoralising the forces.” He accused Congress of “importing issues from Pakistan” and acting as a “spokesperson for Pakistan’s narratives.” He also recalled the May 9 night call from US Vice President JD Vance, whom he warned that if Pakistan’s intention was a big attack, “it will cost them heavily.”
PM Modi concluded by affirming that “Today’s India is filled with self-confidence, self-reliance,” contrasting it with the Opposition’s alleged reliance on external narratives.
