Shanghai, 28th July: The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) is advancing China’s “AI Plus” vision by showcasing nine game-changing Hong Kong AI technology ventures at the World AI Conference & High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance (WAIC) 2025, held from July 26-29 in Shanghai. In collaboration with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Cyberport, HKSTP is leveraging Hong Kong’s growing status as a global AI innovation hub to drive China’s strategic AI initiative and transform various industry sectors.
Eric Or, Acting Chief Corporate Development Officer, HKSTP, emphasized Hong Kong’s role as a “crucible for world-class AI innovation.” He stated that the HKSTP ecosystem provides an ideal platform to empower AI tech firms for global expansion, fostering a critical mass of world-class AI innovators that will accelerate the country’s high-tech industry and economic development.
Diverse AI Innovations on Display
The nine park enterprises featured in the Hong Kong Pavilion span diverse fields, including life and health tech, fintech, entertainment, aerospace tech, and digital education. Highlights of the showcased innovations include:
Hong Kong Space Robotics and Energy Centre Limited (HKSRE): This InnoHK R&D centre focuses on aerospace technology, demonstrating its multifunctional lunar surface operations and mobile charging system developed for the Chang’e-8 mission through international collaboration.
Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR) Hong Kong Institute of Science & Innovation Chinese Academy of Sciences: Another InnoHK R&D centre, CAIR is presenting MicroNeuro, which is described as the world’s first flexible robotic system for minimally invasive neurosurgery.
Digital Domain: A global leader in Hollywood visual effects, this company is showcasing “HANBAO,” an AI-powered video creation solution, and “AI DOMAIN,” an all-in-one content creation platform designed to empower creators in tailoring high-quality short videos.
Beyond the technology showcase, HKSTP also hosted a panel discussion at WAIC 2025, titled “From Hong Kong to global impact: Shaping the future with AI and New Quality Productive Forces for Cross-industry Growth.” The discussion underscored Hong Kong’s unique position in global AI development by uniting international talent and technology, aligning with China’s vision for industrial transformation through quality productive forces.
HKSTP’s Ecosystem and Future Catalysts
As Hong Kong’s largest innovation and technology (I&T) ecosystem, HKSTP is home to over 500 AI startups, including homegrown unicorns that are actively shaping the future of artificial intelligence. In line with Hong Kong’s ambitious vision for technological leadership, the upcoming HKSTP San Tin Technopole Campus—a 20-hectare site within the future San Tin Technopole—is set to become a critical catalyst for the city’s next wave of innovation. This campus, strategically located in the heart of the Northern Metropolis, aims to be a flagship landmark for AI+ and beyond, promoting its widespread development and application across various sectors.
HKSTP’s participation at WAIC 2025, themed “Global Solidarity in the AI Era,” underscores Hong Kong’s crucial role as a bridge between Chinese and global innovators, fostering collaboration and the exchange of ideas, technologies, and governance philosophies in the AI ecosystem.
