New Delhi, 18th July: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi is facing mounting troubles as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated investigations into three major alleged scams that occurred during its tenure. These cases involve suspected irregularities exceeding ₹6,368 crore, with the ED having formally registered cases to probe the alleged malpractices. The investigations target projects related to hospital construction, night shelters (rain baseras), and the installation of CCTV cameras.

Hospital Construction Scam: Alleged ₹5,590 Crore Irregularity
The most significant alleged irregularity concerns the construction of 24 hospitals. In 2018-19, the Delhi government decided to build these hospitals, promising completion within six months. However, despite an expenditure of ₹800 crore, less than half the work was reportedly completed. The cost of Lok Nayak Hospital alone allegedly escalated from ₹488 crore to ₹1,135 crore.

The ED’s allegations suggest that work commenced without proper approvals. The agency is expected to soon interrogate AAP leaders in connection with this case, with former Health Minister Satyendar Jain and Saurabh Bharadwaj likely to be questioned. Satyendar Jain has previously been jailed in a money laundering case and is currently out on bail.

Beyond the hospital project, the ED is also investigating alleged irregularities in the construction of shelter homes and the installation of CCTV cameras across Delhi, further deepening the legal challenges for the ruling party.
