Motihari, 18th July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone, inaugurated, and dedicated to the nation development projects worth over ₹7,000 crore in Motihari, Bihar. Addressing a large gathering, PM Modi highlighted that the 21st century marks “the era of our eastern states” in India, paralleling the global rise of Eastern nations.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Bihar’s rapid progress is possible due to the aligned vision of both the Central and State governments. He contrasted the ₹9 lakh crore allocated for Bihar’s development in the last 10 years under his government with the approximately ₹2 lakh crore received during the previous central governments.
Focus on Welfare, Empowerment, and Development
PM Modi underscored the massive scale of welfare schemes, particularly housing. He stated that over 4 crore houses have been built under the PM Awas Yojana nationwide in the past 11 years, with nearly 60 lakh constructed in Bihar alone, including approximately 3 lakh in Motihari district. He also mentioned that over 12,000 families in the region received keys to new homes today.
Crediting women’s strength for Bihar’s progress, Shri Modi noted that around 3.5 crore women in Bihar now have Jan Dhan accounts, facilitating direct transfer of government scheme funds. He highlighted the “Lakhpati Didi” initiative, stating that over 20 lakh women in Bihar have achieved this status, including more than 80,000 in Champaran. He announced a release of ₹400 crore as a Community Investment Fund to further strengthen “Nari Shakti.”
The Prime Minister reaffirmed commitment to employment for Bihar’s youth, praising Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar’s government for transparently appointing lakhs to government roles. He announced a new Central Government scheme starting August 1, where first-time private sector job seekers will receive ₹15,000, with a central expenditure of ₹1 lakh crore.
Agricultural Initiatives and Naxalism Eradication
Highlighting agricultural focus, PM Modi mentioned efforts to boost makhana prices and integrate farmers with larger markets, including the formation of a Makhana Board. He noted that over 5 lakh farmers in Motihari alone have received more than ₹1,500 crore under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.
A key announcement was the approval of the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana by the Union Cabinet. Under this scheme, 100 agriculturally backward districts with high potential, including a significant share from Bihar, will be identified for targeted support, benefiting nearly 1.75 crore farmers nationwide.
PM Modi also reiterated his government’s resolve to “completely free the country from Naxalism,” noting its decline in areas like Champaran. He recalled launching “Operation Sindoor” from Bihar’s soil and its global success.
The inaugurated projects include railway and road initiatives that will significantly enhance connectivity. He flagged off the Amrit Bharat Express on four new routes, including a direct service from Motihari-Bapudham to Anand Vihar, Delhi. The redevelopment of Motihari railway station and doubling of the Darbhanga-Narkatiaganj rail line were also highlighted. PM Modi concluded by urging collective efforts for a brighter future for Bihar.
Several dignitaries, including Bihar Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Union Ministers, were present at the event.
