Patna, 18th July: In a chilling display of targeted violence, a known gangster was brutally murdered inside an upscale hospital in Patna, Bihar, captured entirely on CCTV footage. Chandan Mishra, a gangster facing 24 criminal cases including a dozen murders, was on medical parole and admitted to Paras Hospital under guard when five assailants stormed the ICU and shot him dead on Thursday morning.

CCTV footage from inside Paras Hospital depicts five men silently entering a corridor. Leading the group was a man, later identified as Tauseef Badshah, walking with a slow, unreadable gait, gun in hand, his face uncovered. Seconds later, Chandan Mishra lay dead in the ICU. The first reports of the killing emerged at 7:30 am, with the shocking CCTV footage circulating on social media by 8:00 am. Within hours, police identified all five attackers.

The footage further shows Tauseef Badshah maintaining an unnervingly calm demeanor. While his accomplices fled after the shots were fired inside the ICU, Tauseef exited with the same deliberate stride, seemingly unfazed by the murder.

Brazen Act and Criminal Connections
Further underscoring the brazenness of the act, two photographs surfaced post-killing: one showing Tauseef riding pillion on a motorcycle, pistol raised in triumph, and another attacker celebrating. According to police, Tauseef Badshah hails from Patna’s Phulwari Sharif, with his father owning a hardware business and his mother being a teacher. He attended Saint Karen’s School.

Despite his seemingly ordinary background, Tauseef had a criminal record, including at least one case under the Arms Act. Police sources confirmed that he had recently become involved in contract killings, accepting money for murders or providing logistical support for such operations.

Police sources indicate the murder stems from a long-standing rivalry between Chandan Mishra and another gangster named Sheru. The two were once allies but reportedly fell out while incarcerated in Bhagalpur jail. Chandan subsequently broke away to operate independently, though he continued to use the “Sheru Gang” label for his operations.

Political Fallout and Investigation
The audacious murder of a jailed gangster inside a reputable hospital, under police watch, has triggered sharp political reactions across Bihar. RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Criminals, protected by the government, shot at a patient admitted to a Patna hospital. Is anyone safe in Bihar? Did such an incident happen in Bihar before 2005, during the RJD’s rule?”

Independent MP from Purnea, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, claimed he received a threatening call warning him to stay away from the case. “Law and order have completely collapsed in the state. I would demand the imposition of President’s rule when I meet the governor. Criminals are being killed on the basis of their castes,” he alleged.

The Bihar Police have confirmed the detention of six suspects from Patna and Buxar so far. Intensive searches are ongoing at known hideouts, particularly those linked to the Sheru gang, as the investigation continues.
