Alirajpur, 16th July: The son of a Congress MLA has been booked for attempted murder after allegedly trying to run over two policemen with his SUV near the Alirajpur bus stand. The accused, Pushpraj Singh, is the son of Jobat MLA Sena Patel and is currently absconding, with a statewide manhunt underway.
According to CCTV footage, Singh was driving a speeding SUV without a registration plate when two patrolling constables attempted to stop the vehicle. Instead of halting, Singh allegedly accelerated towards them. The constables narrowly escaped being run over, and the vehicle eventually crashed into a pole. One constable, Rakesh Gujaria, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at the district hospital.
Alirajpur Kotwali Police have registered a case of attempted murder based on testimonies of the injured constables. Superintendent of Police Rajesh Vyas confirmed that a DSP-led team is searching for Singh and stated that the accused “deliberately tried to run them over.”
However, the incident has snowballed into a political controversy. Singh’s father, Mahesh Patel, held a press conference accusing the police of filing a “false case under political pressure.” He claimed the incident was a “minor accident” and said they would challenge the FIR in the High Court.
MLA Sena Patel also alleged political vendetta, calling the FIR part of a “well-planned conspiracy.” She said she would raise the matter in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly and take it up with the Chief Minister.
Despite the pushback, the CCTV visuals show the SUV racing toward the constables, who jump aside moments before the vehicle crashes. The footage has intensified calls for Singh’s arrest.
