New Delhi, 15th July: A Delhi-Mumbai SpiceJet flight witnessed chaotic scenes when two passengers, reportedly agitated over the lack of air-conditioning, attempted to storm the cockpit just as the plane was taxiing for takeoff.
According to a viral video from the flight, SG 9282, the disruption began when the aircraft had already started moving on the runway. The aggrieved passengers demanded that the AC be turned on, shouting from the rear of the aircraft, “AC chala de, hum baith jayenge” (turn on the AC, we’ll sit down), as others urged them to calm down and warned of legal consequences. One flier said, “You cannot stop a plane like this; this is illegal,” while another demanded that they be deboarded.
SpiceJet confirmed the incident in a statement:
“On July 14, 2025, two unruly passengers were offloaded from SpiceJet flight SG 9282 operating from Delhi to Mumbai. The two attempted to forcefully approach the cockpit and caused a disruption while the aircraft was taxiing. Despite repeated requests from the crew and captain, they refused to return to their seats.”
In the interest of safety, the captain returned the aircraft to the bay and handed over the duo to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
According to air traffic tracking service Flightradar24, the flight was originally scheduled to depart at 12:30 PM but finally took off at 7:21 PM, reaching Mumbai at 9:05 PM. It remains unclear if the entire seven-hour delay was due to this incident.
The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued strict norms to curb incidents involving unruly passengers. The aviation sector has seen a spate of such cases in recent years, including high-profile instances of in-flight misconduct.
