New Delhi, 14th July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari. In a heartfelt message posted on social media platform X, PM Modi recalled his personal interactions with the late leader and praised his wisdom, warmth, and steadfast commitment to strengthening India–Nigeria relations.

“Deeply saddened by the passing of former President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari. I fondly recall our meetings and conversations on various occasions. His wisdom, warmth and unwavering commitment to India–Nigeria friendship stood out,” the Prime Minister wrote.

Offering his condolences on behalf of the Indian people, PM Modi added, “I join the 1.4 billion people of India in extending our heartfelt condolences to his family, the people and the government of Nigeria.”

Muhammadu Buhari, who served as the President of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, was widely respected for his leadership and efforts to promote bilateral ties with India during his tenure. His demise has been met with tributes from global leaders and citizens alike.
