New Delhi, 3rd July: InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of domestic airline IndiGo, has appointed Amitabh Kant, former CEO of Niti Aayog and India’s G20 Sherpa, as a Non-Executive Director on its Board. The appointment is subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals.

Kant, a career bureaucrat known for leading key national development programs and global engagements, stepped down as India’s G20 Sherpa last month. His entry into the boardroom of one of India’s largest airlines comes at a time when IndiGo is rapidly expanding its international operations.

Welcoming the appointment, IndiGo Board Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta said, “IndiGo is delighted to welcome Amitabh Kant as a Board member. His vast administrative experience and leadership in executing large-scale global projects will significantly benefit IndiGo, especially as we pursue our goal of becoming a global airline by 2030.”

During his tenure at Niti Aayog, Kant held several influential roles, including serving as a Director on the Board of the National Highways Authority of India and as a Member of the National Statistical Commission.

In a statement, Kant expressed optimism about his new role: “I am delighted to join the Board of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. With its scale, efficiency, and international ambition, IndiGo is poised to transform Indian airports into global connectivity hubs. I look forward to contributing to its journey of driving trade, tourism, and economic growth.”

The move is seen as strategic for IndiGo as it aligns its leadership with experience from the highest levels of governance and global diplomacy.
